The Book Is NOT Dead
In July 2010, Amazon announced that e-book sales outnumbered sales of
hardcover books for the first time. Amazon claims that, 180 e-books are being
sold for every 100 hardcover books, including hardcovers for which there is no
digital edition.
E-books are a great thing, one can take thousands of
books with them but without all the weight. But books still hold a lot of
charm. I cannot even imagine my home without my favourite hardcover books, and
they are everywhere: near my bed, in the kitchen, on the coffee table, …
Nothing can be compared with the joy they give me.
Which do you prefer: e-books or hardcovers? And why?
By the way, studying the poster can be rather interesting as well.
What are you reading now?
My dear students! I'd like to
know what you are reading now in order to understand your interests and reading
tastes better. So, write comments in a comment box about the book you are
reading at the moment and tell me why you like it or not. As for me, I am
reading The Green Mile by Stephen King now. I like the book very much. I have
seen the film screened after the story, but the novel is much better, it is simply amazing.
The story is about prison
guard Paul Edgecombe and the events that are taking place while he's the head
guard on a death row in the early thirties. Most of the story centres on the
prisoner John Coffey, who's going to "walk the green mile" (there's a
green carpet on the floor down to the electric chair) for raping and killing
two small girls. Coffey is really big, feeble minded and extremely gentle and
Paul soon starts to doubt that Coffey killed the two girls. And gradually you are starting to doubt too, and a deep sympathy to the
suspect is being evoked in your soul.
In my opinion, it is really worth reading, as the novel is extremely deep,
shrilling and thought provoking.
